Houses, flats and bungalows

We provide a full range of housing and landlord services to approximately 13,000 people living in over 7,500 homes across Essex.

Most of our homes are in the Chelmsford borough and are made up of mainly one, two and three-bed flats and houses, some of which are elderly designated. We also have some four and five-bed houses, and some bungalows.

We are continually making improvements to these homes and updating these to modern standards.

Supported housing

We have 25 retirement schemes in Essex. Some are in central Chelmsford although we also have schemes in Springfield, Galleywood, Boreham, Chelmer Village, Great Waltham, Great Baddow, Stock, Danbury, Writtle, and South Woodham Ferrers. Every scheme is different but the information below will give you a guide to the kind of facilities you can expect.

Shops

We own 63 units on nine shopping parades throughout the Chelmsford Borough. These are on our housing estates and serve the local communities.

When a shop becomes empty, we ask our letting agents to find a new leaseholder. Where possible we give priority to uses that we feel will benefit the local community. Sometimes the parades already have these types of businesses, so we consider other applications that may benefit a wider range of customers, for example tiling and electrical goods. All vacant units are marketed through our letting agents:

Garages

We have a wide range of garages available for rent in the Chelmsford Borough. We operate our own garage waiting list and prioritise premierplus members. If you would like to rent a garage, contact our customer service team on 0845 155 3000 or email: enquiries@chp.org.uk.

We are currently reviewing how our garage sites are used and plan to develop new affordable houses on some selected under-used sites.

We carry out repairs to ensure all our garages are safe and usable. We also carry out regular inspections to check for litter, graffiti, unauthorised parking, abandoned vehicles and damage.
