Affordable new homes 'Blossom' in Great Waltham

Image of houses in Great Waltham A new affordable housing scheme has been completed in the village of Great Waltham in Chelmsford. It provides 10 high quality new homes half of which will be allocated to people with a local connection.

The Blossom Way development was built on a former garage site previously owned by Chelmsford City Council. It got its name from one of Great Waltham’s younger residents following a competition with the local primary school.

The 10 new homes are a mix of two- and three-bedroom houses and one-bedroom bungalows. The properties all use environmentally friendly air source heat pumps and have allocated parking. We have also been able to provide allocated parking on-site for the local scout group.

We collaborated with Chelmsford City Council and Great Waltham Parish Council to deliver Blossom Way and Homes England provided grant funding. Other partners in the project were builders DCH Construction, chartered surveyors Oxbury & Co and architects Barefoot & Gilles.

Carl Hockey, our Growth and Partnerships Director said “We are delighted to have com-pleted these high-quality homes and to be able to offer them to local people. We are grateful to all our partners and look forward to working with them to provide even more new homes like these in future.”

“Our job is to meet housing need in the region. That means doing whatever we can to tackle the housing crisis and to provide affordable homes people will enjoy living in. We have a commitment to delivering 365 new homes a year, a home for each day of the year, a target which I am proud to say we beat last year.”

Cllr Stephen Robinson, Leader of Chelmsford City Council said: “"It is great news that this affordable and energy-efficient housing project has been completed. These homes are a great addition to the housing options available in the Great Waltham area. This is yet another example of Chelmsford City Council working in partnership with CHP for the benefit of our residents. The City Council is determined to deliver further, genuinely-affordable and low-energy homes.”
