Charlie Knight first came to CHP as a student back in December 2017, when completing his dissertation as part of his Master’s Degree in Property and Facilities Management. Charlie has a keen interest in social housing because of the positive impact it has on people’s lives, particularly the younger generation due to the complications of getting on the housing ladder. Charlie knew of the work that we do to our customers’ homes to make them more accessible for people with a disability and chose to use us as a case study for his dissertation.
After his visit, Charlie was keen to work for CHP. Just two months later and after recently completing University, Charlie was seeking future employment and saw the position of Housing Options assistant advertised on our website. Charlie said: “This position was a great starting point and would provide me with some great administrative experience that I can use throughout my career”. After going through the application process Charlie was the successful candidate.
A couple of months in, Charlie showed a keen interest in the work carried out by our Surveying and Contractors team. Charlie said: “After a discussion with my line manager I was given the opportunity to shadow the Surveyors on a couple of their visits which helped me understand their jobs a little more. The more I learnt the more interested I became”.
Several months later Charlie saw the role of a Stock Condition Surveyor being advertised at CHP. This was the perfect opportunity for Charlie and after years of studying it was a great next step in his career. Charlie said: “I believe that everything happens for a reason. The interview that I had a couple of months before was great practice and after receiving some positive feedback at my last interview, it gave me some extra confidence going in to this one”.
David George, Asset Information Manager said: “I have been Charlie’s line manager since early December 2018. I was very happy to be able to offer him a position within the Asset Management team, he excelled himself in the application process and really proved to the panel how suited he was for the role. I look forward to working with him to develop further, both within the team and CHP”.
