Happy 99th birthday to one of our oldest and most loyal customers, Rose. Having lived in her home since it was built in 1947, her home still has many of its characterful, original, features.
Rose was aged 27 when she moved in with husband Joe and was delighted to live in her first family house. "I remember it as fields," said Rose. "We were one of the first ones in the street - there was only this house and a few others back then – so it did get a bit lonely at times. We were the first ones in the street to have a telly so the neighbours used to come round on a Saturday night to watch 'What's My Line'!"
Rose's home on the Melbourne estate was built to help fulfil the chronic post-war housing shortage. The engineering industry in Chelmsford meant that the town was target of German bombing in World War II and most of the housing estates in the Melbourne area were built around that time.
Having chosen to keep her original features, Rose's home still has the same kitchen and heating from when she moved in. "I love my kitchen and it works perfectly – I don't want to change it!" said Rose. We're delighted that Rose has finally agreed to some modernisations with a new heating system being installed soon. Thanks go to our heating team for their care and respect of Rose and her wishes despite being up against some stringent compliance targets.
Happy birthday Rose – we hope you have a wonderful day!
