Housing networking group for women established in Eastern region

Fiona Marshall, Chief Executive of Maldon District CouncilTHE first meeting of a group dedicated to women working in the housing sector in the Eastern region was recently held at our Myriad House office in Chelmsford.

Opened by guest speaker, Fiona Marshall, Chief Executive of Maldon District Council, the group's aim is to provide a support and networking forum for women employed in the housing sector.

Following a highly successful conference in March, at Hylands House in Chelmsford, which focused on the issues women face when aiming for promotion as well as barriers they may come across when working in non-traditional roles, a group dedicated to the Eastern region was proposed.

Co-hosted by Commercial Property solicitor, Julie Hoy, from Quality Solicitors FJG, the inaugural meeting was attended by nearly 40 delegates – including housing association employees, architects, local authority staff, lawyers, building contractors and developers – and saw the group select five members to arrange networking seminars throughout the Eastern region and book key speakers for the events.

Lynne Foster, Director of Development, Support and Transformation, said: “Only 16 of the largest 100 housing associations have a female chief executive, groups such as this are designed to enable us to get more women to the top of the housing industry.”

For more information about the group, please contact our Development Officer, Vikki Budd, on 0300 555 0500.
