CHP recently handed over its 1,000th new home to a resident from Clacton-on-Sea.
To celebrate the milestone moment, residentMaurice Starkey, 54, received the keys to his property while CHP staff and local members from Tendring District Council (TDC), enjoyed a seaside themed event - featuring candy floss, popcorn and fish and chips - at the development in Legerton Drive (off St. John’s road), Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.
Due for completion in 2012, the development will provide Tendring districts’ residents with 157 one to four-bedroom homes and apartments for social and discounted* rent.
Built to a code level-three standard of the government’s Code for Sustainable Homes, the development provides much needed family properties to the area; while meeting TDC’s annual affordable housing target to provide 150 homes for the district’s residents.
Having begun its development programme in Clacton-on-Sea in 2009, CHP will have provided over 200 properties - which will all be allocated to the local authority to help reduce the local social housing waiting list - when the development is completed.
Working in partnership with TDC, Bloor Homes, Oxbury and Company and the Homes and Communities Agency – which provided over £4 million in grant funding – the development is CHP’s largest affordable housing scheme since the company’s formation in 2002.
Martin Dean, CHP Chairman, said: “This is a very special occasion for us as it marks the launch of our 1,000th new home. While we are very happy to enlarge our stock, we are absolutely delighted to be able to provide local residents’ with high-quality affordable properties. This development meets our mission to create communities and homes that people want to live in.”
“Congratulations to CHP on launching their 1,000th property,” commented Councillor Alan Goggin, Chairman of TDC. “We chose to work with CHP as their commitment to providing quality housing meets our requirements to provide affordable family properties to the district. Social housing is essential in creating a balanced community and the homes at this development are of a very high quality. I hope the residents are very happy living here.”
CHP resident Maurice Starkey, who has lived in Clacton-on-Sea for 12 years, added: “The property is fantastic, I’m absolutely delighted with it as its very clean and well built. The development itself is great as not only does everyone keep it tidy but it has a real community feel because we all know each other and get along.”
