Sheltered scheme shortlisted for national award
ONE of our sheltered schemes has been shortlisted for a prestigious Elderly Accommodation Council’s (EAC) ‘National Housing for Older People award’ while another has been highly commended.
Glovershotts, in Broomhall Road, Chelmsford, has been shortlisted for the award by its residents, while Coates Lodge, in Hollis Lock, Chelmsford - which won the silver prize in the 2010 EAC awards - was highly commended by the judges.
The EAC awards ceremony, which will be held in Birmingham on 24th September 2013 at the National Motorcycle Museum, will witness Glovershotts compete against 26 sheltered schemes from across the country for a gold, silver or bronze award.
Nominated by the residents themselves – who used a bespoke card game designed to help them rate their sheltered scheme on its design, services and the activities available for residents – Glovershotts was shortlisted by judges after 295 schemes from across the county were put forward for an EAC award.
Sandy James, Older Persons’ Services manager, said: “We’re delighted that one of our sheltered schemes has been nominated for an Elderly Accommodation Council award while another has been highly commended. The residents themselves thoroughly enjoy playing the card game as it’s a great way for them to engage with each other, to discuss the benefits of their scheme and have a lot of fun at the same time.”
