Supporting National Domestic Violence Week

Domestic Violence Awareness WeekLately we have been working with Victim Support and the Safer Chelmsford Partnership to raise awareness of the recent National Domestic Violence Awareness Week.

Held in Market Square, Chelmsford, the event helped make people aware of where they could get help and advice about domestic violence.

Our Quality of Life (QoL) team recently received a report that a tenant had assaulted his partner and was charged with common assault by Essex Police. The district judge at Basildon County Court awarded him a demoted tenancy; the tenant also signed an Acceptable Behaviour Agreement and was ordered to attend counselling sessions.

Jon Cowie, QoL Tenancy Services team leader, said: “We take a zero tolerance approach to cases of harassment or domestic abuse. We will always work with Essex Police to take action.”

If you are – or you know of a friend, family member or neighbour who is – a victim of domestic violence, contact our Quality of Life team on 0300 555 0500 (please note all conversations are confidential) or call Essex Police’s free phone number on 0800 358 0351.
