We raise money for Farleigh Hospice by completing Birketts' Race for Business

Birketts On the 21st June 2018, we joined other local business in Birketts’ annual Race for Business, and raised over £1500 for Farleigh Hospice.

25 members of our staff opted to take part in the race, set in the centre of Chelmsford to raise money for Farleigh Hospice. Set over a course of 3.5 miles, the race begins in Chelmsford city centre, with a scenic route through Central and Admirals Park, before finishing at Birketts’ office on Bradford Street.

2018 is Birketts’ 20th anniversary of its historic charity race, which is held every year. The race is open to individuals and teams from the Essex business community, with each runner provided with an individual timing chip to ensure accurate results. Prizes are offered to fastest runners, biggest teams and best fancy dress.

Helen Shackleton, Assistant Director of Development (New Business) took part in the event and said: “The race is a great annual event and always a lot of fun. We work regularly with solicitors from Birketts’ and enjoyed seeing so many of them out of the office! It’s great to see so many local businesses come out in support for a local charity.”

Courtney Sullivan, Finance Assistant said: “I had a brilliant time at the race, the whole thing was an amazing experience: from the atmosphere, to the runners and the support from spectators. Farleigh Hospice is an inspirational local charity and I am so pleased many of our staff took part. We raised a huge sum of money and can’t thank people enough for their support.”

All money raised will be donated to Farleigh Hospice, who provide hospice care to people affected by life limiting illnesses across mid Essex. The hospice aims to purchase a new Hospice Outreach Project (HOP) vehicle, as back in 2016 the previous vehicle had to be retired due to mechanicals defects. As a result, it has been harder to reach the local community, particularly in remotes areas of mid Essex. The HOP vehicle provides information about the hospice and its services, with specialist staff answering questions and concerns, giving qualified advice and signposting people towards the best support possible.
