On the 14 June 2017, the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy caused the deaths of 71 people, and left many more homeless.
To remember the tragic event, we joined the nation by supporting the following actions for the Green for Grenfell campaign:
- Holding a commemorative silence at midday on Thursday 14 June 2018;
- Wearing an item of green clothing to work on Friday 15 June;
- Donating money for a local community initiative;
- Using the hashtag #GreenForGrenfell on our social media pages to show the world we support the campaign.
Green for Grenfell is a campaign designed by Grenfell United, an association made up from the survivors and bereaved of the Grenfell Tower Fire. The day aims to bring together and support local communities.
We wish to reassure all our residents that your safety is our highest priority and you can read more about our fire safety policies on our website.
We own one tower block, Parkside Court in Chelmsford. In 2014, the tower was retrofitted with a sprinkler system, and was recently visited by the London Assembly into their investigation into the use of sprinkler systems. They used Parkside Court as an example of best practice by the London Assembly in their report to the Mayor of London, and have recommended a £50 million 'London Sprinkler Retrofitting Fund' is used in the 200 existing high-risk buildings in the capital over the next five years.
The tragic events are Grenfell Tower are something we will never forget, and our thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragedy.
