Housing associations across the UK representing over a million homes have joined the campaign, which is asking the government and the energy sector to do more to end fuel poverty.
An estimated 2.4 million households in the UK are currently estimated to be in fuel poverty, and this figure could increase as we recover from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
A recent study from the Academy of Medical Sciences – commissioned by the Government Office for Science - found that those in fuel poverty are at a greater risk from coronavirus. This is because cooler temperatures inside homes will allow the virus to thrive.
North East based housing provider Home Group is leading the campaign and has written to the Prime Minister and the energy sector asking them to take action to end fuel poverty.
