Completion of our largest land-led scheme in Braintree
We have recently taken handover of the final homes at our East Street development in Braintree.
The development is our largest land-led scheme to date. It has transformed a formerly derelict brownfield site to deliver 74 much needed affordable homes in the area.
44 of these homes are for affordable rent and 30 for shared ownership. The properties are comprised of one, two and three-bedroom flats and houses. The scheme was partly funded by a grant from Homes England.
All the shared ownership properties on this development are already sold. Any profit from these sales will be used by us to provide more affordable homes in the eastern region and improve and maintain our existing properties. The affordable rent properties will be allocated by Braintree District Council.
In line with our Environmental Sustainability Strategy, all properties have infrastructure in place for the future installation of electric car chargers. The development also includes public open space with a play area for children. We will manage this area which will open to the public in the spring. To protect local wildlife six bird boxes, two bat boxes, one hedgehog house and one insect house have been installed across the development.
During the construction process, we were able to provide skills training to our plumbing apprentice. We also provided a total of 24 working weeks of construction skills training to several young people from Essex Youth Build- a Chelmsford based charity offering construction and employability skills training.
