Transfer or exchange your home
If you’d like to move to a different home, you can apply for a transfer to another of our properties. Or you could consider a mutual exchange. This is where you swap your home with another housing association or council tenant. You’ll need to find a suitable household to swap with. We can advise you on how best to go about this.
Transfers and mutual exchanges are available to tenants from other housing associations and councils as well as CHP customers. You can read our Mutual Exchange Policy for more information. If you’re a CHP customer, you can also access more information, such as whether you're eligible for a transfer or mutual exchange, on your online account.
When you’re ready to apply, please fill out the application form. Please note, everyone involved in the mutual exchange will need to complete their own application form, even if they're not a CHP customer.
Top tips for mutual exchanges
- Advertise widely: Use social media and websites like HomeSwapper and HouseExchange to advertise your home to others who might be looking to do a mutual exchange. Spread the word by speaking to your neighbours too.
- Create a strong advert: Make sure pictures of your home are clutter-free and don’t include people or pets. Include a good description, and mention if you live close to a station, shops, or other useful amenities.
- Stay safe: When showing someone your home or going to view someone else's, always let a friend or family member know, ideally take someone with you, and end the viewing if you feel uneasy.
- Present your home well: Make sure it’s clean, tidy, and a comfortable temperature. Be honest when answering questions.
- Ask questions: When looking round a home, ask why the current tenant is moving, what tenancy they hold, what fixtures/fittings will remain, and if they have any repairs scheduled.
- Look closely: Check the home’s condition inside and out and take photos (if the current tenant doesn’t mind).
