We’ve been shortlisted in the Essex Housing Awards 2022

This year’s Essex Housing Awards shortlist has been announced, seeing us shortlisted in two categories. These are the Climate Action category, which recognises organisations responding to the climate crisis, and Construction Skills for the Future Builders project.

In 2020, we launched our Environmental Sustainability Strategy. This recognises the housing sector’s responsibility in fighting climate change, with our goal to be carbon Net Zero by 2050. The strategy covers four key areas. This includes eliminating unnecessary waste with an aim to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible, encouraging employees and communities to adopt positive environmental behaviours, to reduce our carbon footprint by five to 10 per cent annually to be carbon Net Zero by 2050, and increasing the energy efficiency of our homes.

We’ve also teamed up with Essex Youthbuild to set up the unique Future Builders project. This initiative gives young people from all backgrounds the opportunity to learn construction skills and career opportunities in the construction sector. The scheme sees groups of young people build and demolish a purpose-built studio flat in a designated area at our Chelmsford office.

The Essex Housing Awards recognises high-quality services, developments, and individuals across the sector, who promote best practice across the county. Hosted by Housing Essex in partnership with Birketts, the awards will take place on 3 November 2022.
