Margaret and Peter’s story

Margaret, 78, and Peter, 81, had lived together at Andrews Place for 18 years and believed it would be their forever home. They enjoyed many happy years there, although the road noise always bothered them.

At first, they were very concerned about the regeneration of Andrews Place and didn’t want to move, but we listened to their concerns and made sure they were involved in the planning and decision-making process.

Margaret said, “We attended the weekly drop-ins and all the customer consultation events. We were shown all the plans and were able to provide feedback. We were offered the option to return to Andrews Place if we wanted to, after the regeneration was complete.”

Margaret and Peter needed a two-bedroom home due to health reasons, and they also wanted a garden. Location was important because of Peter’s limited mobility, so they needed a shop and doctors nearby.

After accepting their property, we visited Margaret and Peter once a week and spoke with them regularly to make sure that everything was progressing smoothly and that they were happy. We helped them turn their new property into a home by collaborating on the design and layout.

“CHP offered a comprehensive package to help us settle in. The handyman service was excellent. They built our new furniture since we couldn’t take our wardrobes with us as they were fitted. They also put pictures up and did other jobs that would have been difficult for us, such as plumbing in the washing machine and connecting the cooker.

“They put electricity in the garage so we could charge the mobility scooter and power our additional fridge,” explained Margaret.

When asked how they feel about their new home, Margaret said: “We love it, there isn’t a thing we don’t like. It’s lovely and quiet here despite being next to a school. We couldn’t have wished for a better place. All the neighbours are lovely. When our cat went missing, they helped us look for him. Even the bus routes are good, and the shops are handy. The doctor’s surgery right outside the house is a great benefit due to Pete’s medical conditions. The support we’ve received has been great, and it made the move easy and plain sailing.”
