RSH consumer standards consultation

Share your feedback on the Regulator of Social Housing’s draft consumer standards

We’re pleased to let you know about a valuable opportunity for you to have your say on the new consumer standards from the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH).

The Social Housing Regulation Act 2023 received Royal Assent to become law in July 2023. It will put in place the reforms outlined in the Social Housing White Paper to:

  • improve the regulation of social housing;
  • strengthen tenants’ rights;
  • make sure homes are of better quality and are safe.

The reforms include the transformation of the consumer regulation role of the RSH. The RSH will now proactively monitor and drive landlords' compliance with enhanced consumer standards.

To support this, the RSH has launched a 12-week consultation on four draft consumer standards. They set out the specific expectations and outcomes that all registered providers will be expected to achieve. The four standards are:

  • Safety and Quality Standard
  • Transparency, Influence, and Accountability Standard
  • Neighbourhood and Community Standard
  • Tenancy Standard

The RSH wants views from registered providers, tenants, and anyone with an interest in social housing. You can read full details of the consultation and how to have your say on the government’s website. An accessible Easy Read summary of the consultation is also available.

The consultation closes on Tuesday 17 October 2023.
