Customer news

Grow with CHP this summer

At CHP we’re always looking for great new ways to engage with our customers, which is why we created a community garden and allotment that customers can enjoy. If you’d like to get involved, we’re looking for customers to volunteer their time to help us maintain and enjoy these green spaces.

Earlier in the year, we launched our Gardening Club, held on Thursdays, 1-3pm. This activity is in partnership with the RHS, aiming to bring keen gardeners together to grow produce.

In addition to our community garden, we also have a community allotment on Avon Road in Chelmsford. This is a newly launched venture and we’re looking for a group of budding botanists to join our weekly session at the allotment every Wednesday.

Both our community garden and allotment provide the opportunity for people to learn how to grow their own food, nurture and harvest it. You’ll be able to reap the benefits of contributing to our green spaces, as volunteers will be able to take home some produce, with the rest going into our community fridge at the Hub. Our community fridge is available for anyone to access, with surplus produce donated by local people and shops added to it.

This week, June 5-11, is National Growing for Wellbeing Week. This event celebrates the benefits of growing your own produce, and the positive effects on your physical and mental wellbeing. Hosted by Life at No.27, the health benefits include improved confidence and communication, as well as connecting with others and acquiring new skills.

If you’d like to join us and get stuck into some gardening, come along to either our gardening or allotment sessions. You can find out more about each of them by checking out our calendar or by emailing community@chp.org.uk.
